Rain is expected to sweep into Los Angeles right as eight City Section playoff games begin, and every matchup will be played on grass fields, chewed up by months of practices and games. Players will likely have to slog through mud rather than dry turf.

Defensive players will have to adjust their angles and strategies, while offensive players will struggle to maintain control of rain-soaked balls. Players are also more likely to sustain injury. Nevertheless, many coaches and players see the new challenges as a chance to exhibit their excellence. They believe that the ability of teams and players to overcome unexpected challenges will separate extraordinary athletes from those with less ability.
