How Prevalent are Transfer Shenanigans?

CIF Commissioner Mike West recently visited Bishop Montgomery to talk to its administrators about the school's high number of transfers, including five that were deemed ineligible, because of their violations of CIF Bylaw 202, which requires that players provide true and accurate information. For many, this was breaking news. But others had been predicting that Bishop Montgomery would be disciplined way back in May. On X, user @strtznolie began a countdown to Bishop Montgomery getting busted. But regular journalists weren't digging into that story and it wasn't until August that the CIF declared the transfer ineligible and journalists like Tarek Fattal and Eric Sondheimer gave it heavy coverage. This begs the question--are there other violations of Bylaw 202 that are going uncovered an unnoticed? Why didn't journalists like Sondheimer ask more questions about players' residency? Why could X users see what reporters did not? Or did many simply look the other way?
