At Palisades Charter High School, questions have surfaced about how attention is shared among the Dolphins football team.
Coach Donte Dezeurn (Coach DT) holds valuable connections with recruiters and college coaches, giving him the ability to spotlight athletes in ways few others can. But much of that spotlight has focused on his nephew, Demare, and quarterback Jack Thomas. In recent days, Coach DT has given some notice to other players like WR King Demethris. But the coverage of Demare and Thomas dwarves these mentions and several players, despite their dedication and hard work, often go without the same recognition.
For the good of the program, Coach DT could use his platform to highlight the full roster, ensuring every athlete has a chance to be seen. Spreading that attention more evenly would not only create opportunities but also strengthen team morale.
Still, DT's impact on the Dolphins is undeniable. He is admired by his athletes as both a coach and mentor, and the bond he shares with them is clear. By balancing recognition across the roster, he has the chance to elevate the entire program while continuing to inspire the players who already love and respect him. Coach Dylen Smith's coverage also focuses disproportionately on some athletes and few others. Smith often goes to bat for RB/WR Harrison Carter. Carter's performances do merit attention, but Smith would do well to spend more time highlighting the teammates who support Carter on the field. Both Coaches DT and Smith are doing a better job by their players than former Coach Beck, who did little in the way of promotion for his team and often destroyed morale through misplaced criticism and undue antagonism; however, they could and should be doing more to help other Dolphins
